“Are you sure we are going to the right place?” Jasmine looked around out of the windows as I drove through the tall grass. About ten minutes ago, we turned on this gravel road but made our way here.

“Yea, I’m following the directions Steven gave me.” I continued to drive and was relieved when I saw Steven’s Monte Carlo parked at an angle.

“See, I told you we were going the right way,” I said.

“Let’s just hope we can remember our way out of these fields.

The chop shop was so discreet it didn’t have a sign on the building. Just a raggedy building with men taking cars apart and putting them back together. Tall grass and haystacks surrounded the small building but the grass was cut for miles.

“What’s up Steven,” Jasmine and I said.

“Just cooling, are y’all ready to meet Playground?” Steven asked.

“Playground, what kind of grown man is nicknamed playground?” Jasmine asked and laughed.

“Shut up Jasmine,” Steven laughed and waved for someone to come over.

Playground, who was the chop shop’s owner, was kind of intimidating. His thick mustache was almond brown, his tiny bald head was shiny and the sun reflected off it. He was about seven feet tall with a huge, round stomach. He wore a blue jumpsuit but he could have gotten it one size bigger. He stared Jasmine and I up and down trying to read us. I gave him the best read of his life. My eyes and body language told him I was strong and about my money. I was too focused on Playground so I didn’t turn my head to check Jasmine’s body language. I was praying to God and Allah that she wouldn’t say or ask anything stupid.

“They’re in!” Playground said.

“Really?” I was excited, but I was playing it cool.

“That’s what I said, right? You can start tomorrow. Bring me two cars and I’ll give you $3,000,” Playground said and wiped the sweat that was dripping down his forehead.

“What if we bring you four cars?” I asked.

“If you can do that on your first night, I’ll give you a total of $7,000. I’m throwing in that extra $1,000.”

“$7,000?” Jasmine and I shouted.

“Yes, but it’s not mandatory. I also need to give you the run down. You do not tell anyone about this, ANYONE, or you will suffer serious consequences. If you get busted, you are on your own, but if you rat, you will suffer serious consequences. I don’t care if you are a twelve-year-old virgin who never experienced life. You will still suffer, okay?” Jasmine and I shook our heads up and down.

“Okay, I’m always on call; it doesn’t matter if it’s 2:00am. 4:00am, or 10:00pm. I’ll come and open the shop any time,” Playground said.

“I like the sound of that Playground. It’s going to be interesting doing business with you.” I shook Playground’s hand and smiled. I was ready to start tonight, but I was going to wait. I didn’t want to be too eager and mess up. I was not ready to sit in anyone’s jail for grand theft auto.
